Creating Transitional Papers for Collage

Creating a Soft Blend Between Two Colors in Collage

Today’s Tidbit is a video I created for Gel Press. As a Creative Team Artist with Gel Press I create instructional videos that are published to their YouTube. You can find my videos as well as those by many other great artists on the Gel Press YouTube Channel. You’ll find tons of inspiration and creative concepts there.

This week I’m creating collage papers for the transition between sand to tropical water. This water’s edge paper really comes in handy when you want to illustrate the transparency of water that allows the sand beneath to show through. Collage is an impressionistic medium, so we are suggesting transparency of water with very specific paper.

I’m using rice paper on a roll for this lesson. I love working on a roll of paper because I don’t have to keep track of individual sheets, I can just keep moving from one end of the roll down and back again–all of my “sheets” are in one place. I am also utilizing my own Ribbon Candy stencil design for Joggles. This stencil has an undulating pattern that reminded me of lapping water.
