Live Online–Big Bold Blossoms
This is a LIVE WORKSHOP via Zoom
Friday and Saturday, August 21-22
Schedule:
10AM-4PM (Eastern Time)
lunch break: Noon-1PM
Learn the basics of collage via ZOOM!
Big Bold Blossoms is a two-day day online ZOOM workshop that will guide you through the collage process step-by-step. Enjoy a LIVE online experience that allows for real-time learning.
This course was developed to share how collaging flowers comes with artistic freedom! Work in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Collage one single bloom with a whole lot of texture, pattern, and a bit of whimsy; exaggerate the colors, shapes, and sizes of your paper petals.
Feel creative freedom as I guide you toward working loosely and with joy. This is a fun, fantastic subject matter that is forgiving and easy to render it’s about creative color and simple shapes!
* Your Zoom invite will be sent in a separate email the day before the event.
Workshop will focus on:
Transferring your reference photo
The art of the painted sketch
Creating hand painted collage papers
How to tear with and without white edges
How to glue your papers flat without cockling
Auditioning your color choices
Working front to back when layering collage paper
How to treat the background as an integral part of your design
Using value to understand the importance of shading in your collage work
Working with simple shapes and staying loose!
SUPPLIES:
BASIC SUPPLIES
Pencil and Eraser for sketching your image
Reference Image sized up to fit your substrate on non glossy paper
Graphite transfer paper to transfer your photo to the board as a sketch, I prefer this brand
Golden Fluid Acrylic Paint Starter Set for underpainting your subject matter and hand-painting your papers. Keep in mind the colors of your flower and your ability to mix color, purchase additional colors of paints accordingly, I suggest starting with 1 oz bottles.
Container of Gesso for priming your wood panels and adding white to certain paint colors in order to make them more opaque.
Liquitex Gloss Gel Medium this is the collage glue, I use gloss because it keeps the colors more vibrant
Canvas Panels economy surface for support, this is mat board covered with pre-primed canvas, NOT stretched canvas. 12x12 or similar size, your choice. Size your reference image to the exact size of your panel. Optional: cradled wood panel
Paint Brushes (various sizes and shapes) for painting your bird image and applying glue. Use what you have on hand, I like Princeton Catalyst short handle #8 filbert specifically for glue application.
Water container, Paper Towels, Paper Plates or Palette Paper Pad to mix paint on
OPTIONAL: Masterson Sta-Wet Palette system, this will save your paints for up to a week or more! AND I use the palette sheets in my collage paper when I’m done mixing on them. I recommend this product highly.
SUPPLIES SPECIFIC TO PAINTING PAPER
Hard Rubber Brayer for applying paint to Gel Plate
Joggles Stencils Designed by Yours Truly or what you have on hand
Joggles Foam Stamps Designed by Yours Truly or what you have on hand
RubberMoon art stamps Designed by Yours Truly or what you have on hand
Corrugated cardboard
Textured household items such as silicone sink liners
Princeton Catalyst Wedge for scraping lines into the paint
Rice Paper there are many different kinds of rice paper, this sketch pad is what I like the best, especially for working on the Gel Plate. You may find others at your local supply store or you may have some on hand with or without fibers. Please avoid super thin rice papers, as they tear easily.
Variety of Found Papers: sheet music, maps, wallpaper, hand written notes, old book pages, hand made papers, dry waxed deli paper, a variety of thickness and textures.
Dry Waxed Deli Paper translucent like tissue, but tougher
All Supplies can be found on my Amazon Page:
