Soft Pastels on the Gel Plate for Mixed Media

Smudge-Proof Soft Pastel Gel Prints–No Sealing Needed!

This week, I’m exploring soft pastels on the gel plate again and discovering new ways to integrate those prints into mixed media projects. Creating stunning gel prints is always exciting, but the real challenge is finding creative uses for them! In this video, I’ll show you how to use soft pastels on wet-strength tissue paper to create smudge-proof overlays—without the hassle of traditional pastel sealing. These vibrant layers add rich color, depth, and texture to your mixed media work.

It’s always exciting to incorporate NEW materials into the mixed media process and I love to revisit my old art supplies!

NOTE: Clean the residual pastel from your plate with some baby oil.
