Magpie Memory–A Unique Piece
The Symbolism of This Amazing Piece
This is one of a very FEW and the only remaining piece I have in my private collection that incorporates so much symbolism. The chain of shapes on the left is based on a necklace that was given to me by one of my students when I complimented her on it! She just took it off and gave it to me, that generosity and her giving heart stuck with me. The horizontal row of flowers represents folk art shapes that I have been inspired by for years with my stamp designs. I love the flat pattering of this style of art. You’ll notice that the figure’s earring is actually created from one of these flowers! Speaking of flowers, the rose on the dark side of the figure’s face represents new growth–even out of darkness and sorrow, it grows. Perched on the shoulder of the figure is the Magpie. Magpies steal shiny things, this one has stolen time and is looking back at it. The red strings connect the stolen time to the figure’s heart… a sense of loss tethered to her heart and entwined in her fingers–she can touch it and feel it–ever present.
This piece is 100% collage, it took forever to complete and was created during an emotional time of my life, it is in fact a self portrait. I am ready to let this one go to a new home, perhaps to someone who can relate personally to the symbolism of it. It’s been in my private collection and is now available.
This piece is wired and ready to hang.
Did you know that I always have artwork available on my website? to be honest much of my work sells from social media and through workshops and events, however there are some pieces that are available on my website.
