Posca Paint Pens on the Gel Plate

Hawaiian Inspired Tropical Print

Layering paint pens, stamps and colors directly onto the Gel Plate

This week I’ll show you how I create a painterly print for collage paper with Posca paint pens directly onto the Gel Plate for a one-pull print. Maybe it’s because it’s so HOT (still) in Sacramento, but this print makes me think of a tropical summer fabric pattern. I’m not a fan of bathing suits, so let’s just say it would make a good beach towel; warm colors, BIG flowers, and stripes. I hope you have fun drawing on your gel plate, I sure did!

I’m using a real sturdy rice paper to pull off these multiple layers, with the smooth side down. I’m also working from the most translucent colors to opaque colors, in that order. It’s important to stay in the same family of color for harmony, but if you want dissonance, go ahead and experiment with some clashing colors! I intend to use this paper for collage and I am going to put it into my orange/peach paper drawer.

If you are interested in in-depth learning I have an online self-study Gel Plate Monoprinting for Collage Paper workshop that’s fantastic.
